Conditional Formatting Using Data Selection in Inforiver Matrix

Imagine that we have a dataset with large values, and we would like to have the option of choosing any one of those values when creating our own Rules Based Formatting. Chances are that we must manually type the numbers in our conditional field which may be easy if our dataset values are small, but extremely difficult or tiresome when they are large.

Data selection or the ability to choose our required value directly from our dataset for formatting, is an extremely useful and time saving feature. It can help us achieve Rules based formatting using any value in our dataset without having the need to type it.

While Power BI currently does not support this feature of data selection in their Rules based formatting, with Inforiver Matrix we can easily select our dataset value for formatting with just a simple click of a button.

Let us illustrate this with an example.

1. In Home tab we select the Conditional Formatting tab, and under that dropdown we will select Create Rule option:

2. Next, we will select Rules (If Conditions) under the Format by dropdown:

3. Under conditions we will select Data selection. This will allow us to choose our required dataset value directly from our dataset:

4. When we select our dataset value, we can clearly see it get applied on our condition:

5. Finally, when we click Apply, we can see our condition getting applied in our dataset:

6. In addition to this let us say that we decide to change our dataset value or even modify it, in that case the dataset value in our If Condition would also automatically get updated to being the same value:
